In his latest book, Real Love: Where Bible and Life Meet,
Thaddeus Barnum explores key passages of 1 John and asks us
to consider the profound meaning of love in our lives. The de-
votional is built on Barnum's phi-
losophy: "Relationships are every-
thing in the kingdom of heaven.
Not just because God said so, but
because it's who God is." He
guides the reader through 50 en-
gaging reflections in which the Bi-
ble intersects with real life. In the
process, the pastor reveals and
models the behavior of an authen-
tic disciple. With questions for re-
flection concluding every chapter,
Real Love encourages us to find
our own intersections of Scripture
and daily life, and to use what we
know about authentic love to
shape how we live.
Barnum is the author of three
books, including 2008's Never Silent. He is also senior pastor
at Church of the Apostles in Fairfield, Connecticut, a Mission-
ary Bishop in the Anglican Province of Rwanda and a founding
board member of the Mustard Seed Project.
General Superintendent of the Wesleyan Church Jo Anne
Lyon says of Real Love, "In this inspiring and very real devo-
tional, Barnum leads us toward the heart of Jesus in brilliant
and compelling ways. Each reading calls for further thought
and reflection. The result is no less than a deeper love for our-
selves, for others, and for our Lord."

n Crash the Chatterbox: Hearing God's Voice
Above All Others, Steven Furtick bids us to
"learn how to live out God's truth no matter what
is going on in your life or thoughts." This helpful
book addresses the challenges presented by one's
internal dialogue, the chaos of thoughts and feel-
ings that often overwhelms and distracts from do-
ing God's will. Furtick asserts that God has given
His followers the ability to choose what they be-
lieve in and respond to within this internal dialogue.
According to the author, "crashing the chatterbox"
means "overpowering lies of insecurity, fear, con-
demnation, and discouragement with the promises
of God." He instructs us how to silence doubt and
press ahead to embrace the freeing affirmation of
God and perform His will.
Crash the Chatterbox focuses on four areas in
which negative thoughts are most debilitating: inse-
curity, fear, condemnation and discouragement. Fur-
tick integrates personal stories, inspiring examples and prac-
tical strategies in the book. He also includes discussion ques-
tions for individuals or groups.
Furtick is the New York Times bestselling author of Greater
and Sun Stand Still. He is also the founder and lead pastor of
Elevation Church, a multisite
church based in Charlotte, North
Carolina. Thanks to his experience
ministering to a global audience--
Furtick has spoken at conferences
and churches around the world--
his tone is accessible and stirring.
Many Christians can relate to his
struggle, and his advice is both
biblical and practical. The pastor
writes, "I'm now awakening to the
reality that we can access the pow-
er of God's promises to constantly
crash the system of our broken be-
liefs. I'm learning how to overpow-
er the shouts of the Enemy by
bending my ear to the whisper of
God's supernatural truths about
my identity in Him and His
strength in me."
Crash the Chatterbox is also available as a five DVD set or
as a Challenge Kit with participant guides.
