GOLF:
Bubba Watson
G
ERRY LESTER WATSON, JR.,
well
known to family, friends and the
PGA (Professional Golfers' Associa-
tion of America) as "Bubba," takes his
faith in Christ, as well as his responsi-
bilities as a role model, very seriously.
One of the few left-handed golfers on the PGA Tour, he is a
multiple major tournament champion, having won the Masters
Tournament in 2012 and 2014. He took second place in the PGA
Championship in 2010 and fifth in the U.S. Open in 2007. During
the 2012 PGA Tour, Bubba began the year with three top-five fin-
ishes in seven events, including second place at the WGC-Cadillac
Championship. The University of Georgia grad ranks among the
longest drivers on the Tour, with an average drive of 315.2 yards.
He is capable of hitting a ball over 350 yards and generates a ball
speed of up to 194 mph.

But his golfing success is second-
ary to his outspoken faith in Jesus
Christ and his desire to be a good
role model for young people. Bubba
uses his position as one of the
PGA's fan favorites to share his
faith in Christ, oftentimes over so-
cial media. He frequently uses
Twitter to help direct others
to Jesus, and his Facebook
page has over 260,000 likes.
Bubba and his wife, Angie
(a former WNBA player), decided
to live for Christ not long after twin
girls in their neighborhood con-
vinced him to attend their church
one Sunday. "After a few times
going, I realized this is what I
wanted to do. The truth is here.
And I gave myself to the Lord,"
Bubba says.
Bubba has said his Christian
witness often prompts a negative
backlash, especially on Twitter. In
response, he prays for his detrac-
tors and their families. After the
athlete donned his first Green Jacket
after winning the 2012 Masters, he
credited his "Lord and Savior, Jesus
Christ" for the win, but was cut off
moments later during the ESPN cov-
erage, due to a "technical glitch."
He often quotes one of his favor-
ite Christian rappers, Lecrae, say-
ing he would like his fans to see
God through him: "Lecrae said it
