The War Cry | MAY 2015
that came true for me in 1995 when the
Winnipeg Jets drafted me seventh over-
all. At just 18 years old, I was compet-
ing among the greatest hockey players
in the world. The next season the entire
organization moved to Arizona and be-
came the Phoenix Coyotes. At that point
God was also moving in my heart. I re-
dedicated my life to Him when I was 20
years old. I truly felt then that I was de-
veloping a deeper and stronger personal
relationship with Jesus Christ. When
I was younger, I knew and could talk
about Christ and His teachings, but it
took a little longer for me to experience
the weight and power of His love in my
heart.
Nineteen years later, I'm still blessed
to be playing for the Coyotes.
Looking back at my career, I can see
a clear picture of how God has moved
in my life. I'm so grateful to Him for
the skills He gave me to play hockey
--a game I love because of the energy
and emotion, the intensity and speed,
the camaraderie between the guys,
the way we work together and ulti-
mately the competitiveness of every
player on the ice.
My parents taught me Colossians
3:23 very early on, that in everything
I do, to do it heartily unto the Lord and
not unto men. I know that regardless of
the results, my efforts are not in vain
if they are for the Lord. I love being a
Christian in the hockey world and shar-
ing Christ from this position in which
He's placed me. I am so deeply grateful
and thankful for the grace of God and
the fact that I know He loves me.

I know that regard-
less of the results,
my eff orts are not
in vain if they are
for the Lord.
