E IS THE FIRST AND ONLY
eight-
division world boxing champion,
and he has won 10 world titles.
But there is one fight Filipino
boxer Manny Pacquiao couldn't
win on his own.
Pacquiao's journey to renown began in grinding poverty in the
Philippines, where in 2010 he was elected as the sole representative
for the country's district of Sarangani
and in 2013 he was re-elected. He has
become a standard bearer for his peo-
ple. The boxer is involved in building
a church, school and community cen-
ter on 5.7 acres in General Santos
City to "feed the poor, help the widows
and teach and inspire the children
about the greatness of the Lord."
When Pacquiao was 14, he left
his family's broken home and lived
on the streets, selling flowers, learning
to fight and scraping by until, at 16, he
earned a spot on the amateur boxing team of the Philippines.
Like many who succumb to the allures of fame and fortune, once
Pacquiao made it big, he sought all the satisfaction that a once im-
poverished boy could. His womanizing, drinking, gambling and ca-
rousing were as epic
as his boxing victo-
ries. However, he says,
God changed his heart.
While he is known
in the boxing world for his relent-
less fighting style, the ring is also
his launch pad for proclaiming that
Jesus saves and is the one source of
