true salvation. Raised in a Catholic home, Pacquiao
always had a sense of the spiritual, something en-
couraged by his mother. But his life really turned
around when God spoke to Him about his guilt and
the purposes he should pursue. He remembers, "I
heard the voice of God and I saw two angels." It was a
"conviction from the Holy Spirit," he says, that led him
to discover Jesus and become a born-again Christian.
Since then, he studies the Bible daily, memorizing
verses so he can use the Word of God as a weapon
against temptation. He gives money away to strang-
ers, is deeply involved in the construction of his com-
munity center and sees his role in politics as a way to
help people and draw attention to Jesus. He is com-
pelled to convey God's message that now is the day
of salvation and that the time for Jesus to return
to earth is close.
As Pacquiao prepared for his long anticipated
match on May 2 with Floyd Mayweather Jr., those
close to him say that what is most important to him
is serving the Lord and others and fighting for the
one victory that truly matters: "Fight the good fight
for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to
which God has called you, which you have declared
so well before many witnesses" (1 Timothy 6:12).
The documentary "Manny" explains why he fi ghts. See the
trailer at mannypacquiaomovie.com
Manny wants to focus on
what matters, like cutting
through corruption and
helping others in need.
"I'm happy because I found
the right way, salvation, born
again.
We are required to be
born again, all of us. Christ
said unless we are born
again we cannot en-
ter the kingdom of
God. So it's very
important to me.
Jesus Christ said:
`I am the way and
the truth and the
life. No one comes
to the Father except
through Me.' There is
no other way.
The only
way is through Jesus."
