(EDS) aids people
in need; whether
the disasters
are manmade or
natural, involving
a few families or
encompassing entire
regions. Here, those
who coordinate
emergency services
in the four USA
territories highlight
how the Army
currently stands at
the ready.

Central Territory Resources at a Glance:

mode we are in
preparation mode.
As our volunteer
base continues to age, we make
a concerted effort to recruit new
volunteers. Through partnership
with the K-LOVE radio station (www.
klove.com) we have reached a new
source of volunteers trained to
provide crisis care to supplement
our disaster operations. We train
volunteers to take lead roles in the
incident command system, which we
use to manage all disaster response.
Ongoing training is crucial to our
readiness. Since we tailor services
to specific community needs, we
conduct basic training at the corps
level and are planning training
sessions in key locations throughout
the territory. For example, at the
request of the city of Milwaukee,
we train and coordinate chaplains
to serve as a resource for law
enforcement and survivors in major
incidents. Over 50 chaplains have
already been trained and some have
responded to tragic events in the
community. We participate in major
and local preparedness exercises
and make sure we are written into
state and local preparedness plans.
The WUM Division takes part in the
annual Patriot Exercise, and has
added ESC and the Salvation Army
Team Emergency Radio Network
(SATERN) response to its hydration
support. The Indiana Division has
developed a shelter course.
Each division continues to train
volunteers and to develop Incident
Management Teams. Since the
territory includes many boundaries
on the New Madrid Seismic Fault line,
preparations have begun for a large-
scale emergency response exercise in
2016. The Salvation Army Continuing
Education Program (SACEP) includes
a course for officers and others
in Chaplaincy for Crisis Response
through Olivet Nazarene University.
