APA VALLEY, CA:
The Salvation Army
provided food, shelter, water and emotional
and spiritual care to communities affected
by a 6.0- magnitude earthquake that rocked
parts of Napa, northern California in August. The quake
damaged homes and other infrastructure.
With many residents
unable to cook because of
breaches to the area's gas
main, the Army's Emergency
Disaster Services team
deployed canteens (mobile
feeding units) to the worst-
affected areas in Napa and
Vallejo as well as at the
official evacuation center to
provide about 800 meals a day in the concerted relief
effort. An emergency canteen at Fire Station 21 delivered
hundreds of meals to emergency personnel in the hours

Pell, recently appointed divisional leaders
in Ukraine, the atmosphere in the country
is extremely tense, even in the capital, Kiev.
In the midst of the crisis that has spiraled into a brutal war over
the last five months due to the rift between separatists and the
government, a "very small Salvation Army tries to do what they
are best at--serving suffering humanity. In doing this," Major Beat
Rieder says, "we have come to experience the true meaning of
the Army's motto: One Army, One Mission, One Message. The
small but strong force of The Salvation Army in places like Kharkiv,
Kirovograd and Dnipropetrovsk are tirelessly serving thousands

of IDPs (Internally Displaced

of Donetsk the Salvation
Army corps continues offering
programs including Bible study,
prayer meetings and Sunday
worship. Under the faithful
leadership of
Corps Sergeant-
Major Vera Volf,
the corps carries
out the the vital
task of supplying
people with
water, food and
hygiene products. Minutes
before banks and the Western
Union shut down their services,
we were able to provide
funds to buy these basic
necessities. Emergency funds
from IHQ and the international
emergency services team have
made this possible. "The future
is uncertain. We need to work
with uttermost flexibility.
We are thankful for the
worldwide prayer support
and ongoing donations we
are receiving. We ask for
continued prayer for the
Army in Ukraine and prayer
for the unity
of the vast

Salvation Army will play an
important role in bringing
healing between neighbors
and reconciling enemies when
peace is restored."

ERGUSON, MO:
Salvation Army personnel from
St. Louis, Missouri provided practical assistance
and spiritual support in nearby Ferguson in August
during public unrest following the shooting of
18-year-old Michael Brown by a local police officer.
The St. Louis County Emergency Operations Center
(EOC) requested that The Salvation Army support the
Missouri Highway Patrol (MHP) Command Center with
donations management. The Army also took part in a
