Tilting Back Towards
Biblical Themes
T

silver screen is nothing new.
Few people
may realize just how far back this history goes.
From the silent-picture years to present-day
releases, cycles of biblical themes have come and gone.
The heyday of Bible movies seems to be during the
1950s to early 1960s. After that, a drought of biblical
proportions plagued succeeding decades--that is, until
Hollywood noticed an increasing market for "holy flicks."
It was, in fact, The Salvation Army (Australia) that produced the world's
first dramatic film production. Soldiers of the Cross, a life of Christ presentation,
premiered at the Melbourne Town Hall. The success of this "moving picture"
was followed quickly by Heroes of the Cross.
