This state of the art production studio
has a singular goal of reaching the
world for Christ using digital, video
and social media technology.
Over the last few years, the USA
Western Territory has been unveiling
a new initiative to broaden the Army's
contribution to short film, social
networking and online video. Begun
by Commissioner James Knaggs,
territorial commander USA West,
this initiative has resulted in SAVN.
TV The Salvation Army Vision
Network
, which Knaggs describes as
a "digital street corner." SAVN is
currently led by executive producer
Guy Noland, with the help of Commis-
sioner Joe Noland, former leader of
the USA Eastern Territory.
The history of The Salvation Army,
replete with music, theater and
movies, aligns with the organization's
vision of sharing ministry through
media and entertainment. That vision
dates back to the earliest days of the
Army, when the first band played
inspirational songs on the street
corner and drew crowds of people to
hear the gospel preached. Today, in a
world that connects online, extending
that vision to the digital mission field
seems to be a natural transition.
So far the results have been
remarkable. SAVN has been de-
scribed as akin to a "living organism"
--always evolving to better connect
to an online culture that is constantly
changing. It started with a series of
short films sharing a multitude of
stories-- from who The Salvation
