n 1856 a slave, Samuel Woodward and his family,
escape from the Monroe Plantation near Richmond,
Virginia with the help of the Underground Railroad.
The scene shifts back to 1748, where John Newton
sails from Africa with a cargo of slaves bound for
America. On board is Samuel's great grandfather.
The voyage changes Newton's life forever. His song
"Amazing Grace" has inspired millions for genera-
tions. Ordinary Christians who have the courage to
do the right thing stand out in this film, and it offers
hope for those in bondage today.
