The War Cry | NOVEMBER 2014
These tours are building relationships between The Salvation
Army and the federal government, providing both groups with a
better vantage point that becomes mutually exclusive.
"We want to keep the conversation going with our friends on
the federal level of social services about what The Salvation
Army is, what our mission includes and our national and global
outreach," Lt. Colonel Busroe says.
"It is important that our clients have access to everything
that is available to help in times of need," Busroe explains, "and
that our partners in government know what The Salvation Army
has to offer to clients who find nutrition a serious issue."
Busroe is planning similar tours with other government officials
working alongside
The Salvation Army
in FaithBased
Initiative offices,
including personnel
from the White
House.

The group's third stop is at the Solomon G. Brown Corps,
located in Southeast Washington.
At the Northern Virginia Adult Rehabilitation Center
(ARC), the tour group sees firsthand how men are
overcoming their addiction to drugs and alcohol.
As the day comes to an end, the USDA workers
climb aboard a Salvation Army canteen to hand
hot meals to homeless individuals and families
at Union Station in downtown Washington.

fall
2O14
T
he literary ministry of The Salvation Army has a long and distinguished history
of bringing clarity, guidance, and inspiration to mission.
The Fall 2014 edition of Word & Deed opens with a portrait of the fullness of
salvation. Dean Hinson begins with a biblical understanding of sin, moving to
salvation and its manifestation in good works.
Paul Chilcote outlines the means of grace according to John and Charles Wesley.
Donald Burke reviews Don Thorson's book, Calvin vs Wesley: Bringing Belief in
Line with Practice.
Last but not least, thanks to Robin Rader, librarian for the East's College for Officer
Training, this edition includes two cumulative references for Word & Deed--a
catalogue of journal articles and an index of book reviews and book notes.

The references are also available online as part of the Word & Deed searchable
archive at
