Celeste Perkins, Cindy Roberts and
Twanda Rodgers boarded a Salvation
Army minibus for an exclusive tour of
Camp Happyland (one of 49 divisional
camps nationally), Northern Virginia
Adult Rehabilitation Center (one of 126
ARCs nationally), and the Solomon G.
Brown Corps (one of 1224 corps
nationally). The
group ended the
day at Union Station
in downtown
Washington, where
a Salvation Army
canteen called "the
Grate Patrol" was
making its first of
several nightly stops
providing hot meals
for the homeless.
Ms. Perkins is the
portfolio manager
in the Faith�Based Organizations at
USDA; Ms. Roberts serves as USDA Food
Safety Specialist; and Ms. Rodgers is the
USDA Control Correspondence Officer.
All three work in the Food and Nutrition
Services (FNS) branch of the USDA.
"Our intent for this tour is to promote,
with our friends at the USDA, a greater
awareness of Salvation Army activity
within the U.S. and to facilitate better
visibility of The Salvation Army among
the public," said Lt. Colonel Carol Busroe,
National Director of White House
Relations and Liaison for Emergency
Disaster Services.
Lt. Colonel Busroe included several
Salvation Army personnel to help with
the tour: Lieutenant Jervonne Hinton
(NCV DHQ), Jon Bolduc (Metro
Washington Area Command), and Michal
Machnowski (National Headquarters).

epresentatives from the US
Department of Agriculture (USDA)
spent the day recently on tour of
several Salvation Army programs
in the Washington, DC area. Most programs
were of particular interest to the USDA officials
because of components of the Army's work
that involve feeding individuals and families.
