The Message In Media
...... ......
B
eginning on Easter Sunday,
NBC will run twelve hour-long episodes of A.D.
The Bible Continues
, the highly anticipated sequel to The Bible. Both miniseries
are productions from Roma Downey and Mark Burnett.
The miniseries will guide the
viewer from the sorrow of
Christ's ultimate sacrifice to the
awe-inspiring rapture of the Res-
urrection and beyond.
According to one NBC press
release, A.D. "will focus on the
outcome and the impact the cru-
cifixion had on Jesus' mother,
Mary, His disciples and key politi-
cal and religious leaders. It is set
to showcase the fight for survival
while they try to spread the Gos-
pel to the world. [The series]
will be a spiritual journey through
the Book of Acts."
A harrowing yet uplifting jour-
ney through the birth of the
church, A.D. picks up right where
The Bible
left off. More specifi-
cally, the miniseries follows the
first ten chapters of Acts, explor-
ing the aftermath of Christ's
death and resurrection and His
impact on His followers and
those that opposed Him.
"When Mark Burnett and Roma
Downey launched The Bible on
cable, I told them, without hesi-
tation, that if they wanted to tell
more of the story, we'd love to
do it at NBC," says NBC Chair-
man Robert Greenblatt. "We are
firmly in the `event' business and
nothing has more potential than
A.D.
, as it continues immediately
after The Bible ended."
President of NBC Entertain-
ment Jennifer Salke adds, "You
might think the story is over at
the Crucifixion, but as most of
the world knows, that was only
the beginning. Everyone's lives
were completely altered in an in-
stant and the immediate after-
math of Christ's death had an
impact on His disciples, His
mother Mary and key political
and religious leaders of the time."
A whopping 13.1 million view-
ers watched the first episode
of The Bible--the largest cable
television audience of 2013.
The ten hour-long episodes
averaged 13.2 million viewers
each. Downey and Burnett
express faith that A.D. will
exceed even that.
A.D.
's premiere on Easter Sun-
day will include the last moments
of the Crucifixion, Judas taking
his own life after betraying Christ,
Peter denying Jesus three times
and Jesus' resurrection.
The miniseries stars Argentine
actor Juan Pablo di Pace as Je-
sus, while roles of iconic Bible
characters such as Mary Magda-
lene, John, James, Peter and Si-
mon the Zealot went to noted
actors from around the world.
Faith leaders around the coun-
try are already endorsing A.D.,
including Pastor T. D. Jakes, the
senior pastor of the Potter's
House in Dallas.
"Mark and Roma have deliv-
ered yet another tour de force
to the small screen," said the
pastor. "This epic series brings
all of the passion and dramatic
storytelling that audiences have
grown to expect from this dy-
namic duo. A.D. is must-watch
television at its finest!"
Joel and Victoria Osteen
endorse the miniseries, as well:
"These are the stories of those
first believers who, in the face
of persecution, persevered
through faith, giving rise to
the greatest movement of God
the world has ever seen."
The Osteens look forward to
this global television event.
"We believe it's going to stir
people's hearts as they discover
that the Gospel is still as relevant
today as it was 2,000 years ago,
and we encourage everyone to
watch and experience this pow-
erful message of faith, sacrifice
and victory!"
