The War Cry | MARCH 2015
War Cry:
How do you, personally, describe
the mission of The Salvation Army?
James Knaggs:
I really value the Gowans'
statement about saving souls, growing saints
and serving suffering humanity but really
prefer to say "win the world for Jesus."
WC:
How effectively is the mission of
The Salvation Army being implemented
in the Western Territory?
JK:
This is an extraordinarily diverse territory
with mission points in every corner and every-
where in between. We embrace every opportu-
nity to share the grace of God to all ages,
cultures and in many languages. In addition to
the traditional mission opportunities, we are
reaching out significantly with SAVN.tv. This
is an open-air on the information highway with
formidable success and high quality initiatives.
Our ministries in the Pacific islands of Guam,
Saipan, Micronesia and the Marshall Islands
are complemented by the same sacrificial
service required in the numerous remote
islands of Alaska as well.
WC:
Please name three innovative
approaches that are bearing the most
fruit. How are they doing it?
JK:
First, there is SAVN.tv. We are using the
Internet to connect with God seekers, mostly
by high quality videos, but also including small
group chats that are particularly effective in
Bible studies and recovery ministries. SAVN
recruits Christians to serve online as they train
online soldiers to relate to seekers online in
leading them to faith.
Second, the Harvest Initiatives (HI). These
HI Priorities represent fresh means to reach out
