The War Cry | NOVEMBER 2013
NEW FILM CAPTURES
WONDER OF CHRISTMAS
D
id you see the news report a few weeks ago
about a Florida man who was allegedly shot by
his dog?
It seems to me that "Dog Shoots Man" is as
alluring a headline as the ageold classic "Man Bites Dog."
The victim (name withheld) was shot in the leg by his
pooch as the two of them were riding in the cab of his truck
not far from their home in central Florida. The dog appar-
ently kicked the gun, which "accidently" fired a single shot.
Wouldn't you love to have been in the police station that
evening as the investigating officers came off their shift? I can
only imagine the banter:
"Did you remember to frisk Fido?"
"Were there any pawprints on the gun?"
"How did you keep the handcuffs from sliding off of the
doggie's legs?"
"Is it true this was over the owner not wanting to buy
Kibbles & Bits?"
"Did you remember to read Fido her Weimaraner Rights?"
"Hot Dog! You guys finally made a good collar!"
"Was it hard to retrieve the weapon?"
"Which one of you fetched all the yellow police
ribbon from the scene?"
No doubt the detectives assigned the case were quite dili-
gent in sniffing out all of the clues.
There's nothing like a good laugh. And since God made us
in His image, I believe He loves to laugh too. Psalm 2:4 re-
veals: The One enthroned in heaven laughs.
Which makes me wonder, how often does God have a good
chuckle over the mistakes I make?
I'm sure much of my foolishness over the years made
my Heavenly Father sad--but I hope some of my goofups
caused Him to smile. Just like a father who watches his
child at play.
Most of all, I want my Lord to be proud to call me His
child. Isn't that what you want too?
So that's my advice for today... live your life pleasing in
His sight.
And oh, be extra kind to your dog. You never know...

The film features the work of The Salvation Army
in its early days in turnofthecentury England.
The Christmas Candle, coming to the big screen
November 22, will remind audiences of the spirit of the
season, according to EchoLight Studios and its new
CEO Rick Santorum.
The Christmas Candle is based on the book by
bestselling author Max Lucado, and is set deep in the
heart of the English countryside in the enchanting village
of Gladbury. Legend has it that that every 25 years
whoever lights the Christmas Candle receives a miracle
on Christmas Eve. But at the dawn of the electric age
in 1890, the miraculous and human collide in a most
astonishing way when the Christmas candle goes missing.
"What an honor to be a part of capturing a slice of
this golden era of British history... the light of the candle
still flickers," says Max Lucado.
The film marks the debut for Scottish singer Susan
Boyle, who sang own Britain's Got Talent in April 2009.
Her original single, Miracle Hymn, is the anthem for the
movie. Directed by John Stephenson, The Christmas
Candle stars Hans Matheson, Samantha Barks, Lesley
Manville, Sylvester McCoy, John Hannah and James Cosmo.
