Lessons were learned as that
desperate night went by. A lifelong
respect and admiration for The
Salvation Army was born and the
belief took hold that all work has
value and the potential for lifting
the human spirit.
Since that awakening, the boy
has been constantly reminded of the
goodness of The Salvation Army.
A bell ringer outside a supermarket,
or a television commercial always
reminds the boy, now an old man,
of the Army's spirit and the people
who are called to serve with good-
ness and generosity.
All these years later, he can
still remember that meal, what it
looked like and what it smelled
and tasted like.
The Salvation Army has always
enjoyed a stellar reputation with
the public. Quaint, old fashioned
uniforms and philosophies are
dedicated to the proposition that
if you are in need, we will provide.
Nonjudgmental and generous in
a complicated, jaded world, this
army of selfless, courageous souls
marches to the beat of a different
drummer, providing solace in a
hungry world.
