Dear Friends,
No doubt you have noticed numerous changes in the
War Cry. These have been the result of a long
and carefully considered process to make The Salvation Army's premiere national publication more
relevant and inviting as it seeks to glorify the Lord. The process began in 2003 and has continued by
conferring with the Commissioner's Conference, various committees and groups, surveys, staff
meetings and engaging a professional consultant to guide us in our decisions for the future.
The
War Cry is America's longest continually published Christian magazine spanning a period of 132
years. Over that time it has changed many times to reflect the transformation in American culture
but always with the same God-glorifying message of salvation for the world. Starting next month you
will notice more changes. Be on the lookout for the following:

The frequency of publication will be monthly instead of the current bi-weekly. There will be
12 regular monthly issues plus 2 special issues: Easter and Christmas for a total of 14 issues
per year.
�
The
War Cry will expand to 36 total pages from its current count of 24 to allow for more and
better content.
�
For the first time in the United States, advertising will be allowed.
�
The
War Cry will improve its efforts to evangelize.
�
An improved website with additional content than is found in the print version of the
War Cry. Users will find greater opportunity for interaction as well as opportunities for
input through surveys and other means.
�
There will be a continued effort to update the look of the
War Cry.
Thank you for your loyal support of the print ministry of The Salvation Army over the years. I am
sure you will find these changes will result in a more effective presentation of God's eternal truths
and how The Salvation Army seeks to serve Him.
