Lenora spent much of her life in Iowa and Nebraska.
She was raised in the Christian faith, but had no idea
what The Salvation Army was all about, and she did
not know that someday it would become a big part of
her life.
Lenora Chamberlain's husband and Judy Jones'
husband have been friends since 1947. Judy, a soldier
of the Torrance, California Corps, sometimes took
trips back to Iowa with her husband to attend his
high school reunions. During these visits, she and
Lenora became fast friends, too. Lenora was a suc-
cessful sales representative for food products sold to
restaurants. Her life was secure and settled until
2005, when her husband died and she found herself
alone. With no children to worry about, Lenora began
to seek God's guidance about what
to do with the rest of her life. She
quit her job and scaled down to the
point that all she owned could fit
into her car.
Judy encouraged Lenora to
move to California and become a
caregiver for a close friend of
Judy's. Before committing to this
new adventure, Leonara decided to come out for a
visit. Judy introduced her Lenora to the corps' small
women's group, and the women opened their arms to
her and made her feel at home. After hearing the
corps officer's message during the Sunday service, she
knew that this was where the Lord was leading her.
Since that life changing move four years ago,
Lenora has become an Adherent of the Torrance
Corps and a vital participant in a myriad of programs
from Women's Ministries to youth
activities. Her passion is the Social
Service ministry, where she helps
sort and distribute canned food to
"His House," which aids the home-
less. Lenora not only remains a
faithful caregiver to Eleanor, who
is now 101 years old, but helps
others who are in need of similar
care. She uses every opportunity
that God gives her to serve. You
will find her soaking in God's
Word in Bible studies and Sunday
school class, and you may spot her
in the corps kitchen, once again
happy to be serving others.
From her story we can see how
God may answer your prayers and
lead you right where you need to be. Like Lenora, you,
too can be a vital force used by God in your corps and
community. We can trust the Lord and claim the
promise found in Proverbs 3:5,6: "Trust the Lord with
all Your Heart and lean not unto your own under-
standing, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He
will direct your path."

of ministry opportunities. More and more people
are coming in with names of folks in need of prayer.
It has become a regular occurrence for those at-
tending corps meetings to find quilts draped over
the mercy seats ready for them to pray over. We
humbly thank God for blessing us with this growing
ministry. Our next quilt is destined for a young
woman in China ... God is so very Good.
