T
he Evangelical Press Association (EPA) bestowed
two prestigious awards on the U.S. War Cry at
its convention in Denver, Colorado, this spring,
as part of its annual Higher Goals and Awards of Excel-
lence competition in Christian journalism. The War
Cry's Heritage edition, which in 2014 covered the de-
cade from 1911 to 1920, won first place in the Single
Theme Issue category. The magazine also received
an Award of Merit for Denominational Publications
In receiving the award, Lt. Colonel Allen Satterlee, Edi-
tor-in-Chief, expressed appreciation for this recognition of
The Salvation Army's publications ministry.
The U.S. War Cry is published 14 times a year, includ-
ing special editions at Christmas and Easter, which the
Army also makes available in large-print versions. The
Christmas edition is also published in Spanish.
"Members of EPA are the leading publishers of Chris-
tian magazines in the country, such as Christianity Today
and other denominational and general interest periodi-
cals," explains Jeff McDonald, editorial director at Na-
tional Publications. "They come together at the conven-
tion to share ideas, inspire each other to greater work for
God's kingdom and to recognize the high quality that is
the guiding light for the writers, editors, artists and oth-
ers involved in advancing the cause of Christ through the
communicated word."
