Nick Harrison's Walking with
Wesley: A Ninety-Day Devotional
delves into the life and ministry of
John Wesley for spiritual hope and
encouragement. Harrison encour-
ages readers to "walk alongside
the founder of Methodism and dis-
cover the deeper, wellworn spiri-
tual paths that to this day remain
formative to so many kindred-spirit
Christians." Wesley's spiritual ad-
vice and instruction inform these
90 simple yet powerful devotionals.
Each is built around a quote or
event in Wesley's life that is rele-
vant to all.
The mediations deftly communicate Wesley's wisdom on a
variety of topics, such as fasting, stewardship, prayer and Christian
unity. Instruction ranges from the abstract to the practical. In a
chapter on meekness, Harrison writes, "True meekness is restor-
ative. It does not destroy, but builds." In a chapter on reading,
Harrison suggests books to read, since "The sole remedy for poor
preaching, Wesley said, was `reading, with mediation and prayer.'
Any believer who would not read, could not be a `thorough Christian.'"
General Superintendent of the Wesleyan Church Jo Anne Lyon
has high praise for Harrison's book, saying, "The devotions in
Walking with Wesley are deeply inspirational, weaving together
the life of John Wesley with spiritual reflection. These words are
historic yet relevant, poignant yet simple, following the example
of Christ that Wesley so wonderfully lived through his 87 years of
ministry. This devotional is a great encouragement to my soul, a
reminder that if we are still, God has something to teach us all."
Nick Harrison is the bestselling author of six devotional books
and two novels.

In his new book, Fault-
Lines: Challenges that Trans-
form Your Soul
, Steve DeNeff
reveals seven fundamental
challenges that we all must
face in our lives and how to
handle them with a new vi-
sion of holiness. He believes
what we need is "a way to in-
terpret real life within the
Christian narrative so that
we're able to draw on the
vast resources that await us
in that narrative." He also
criticizes the contemporary
discipleship movement for
neglecting the message of
holiness in favor of promot-
ing behavioral changes. Ac-
cording to DeNeff, discipleship is really about "how you re-
spond to God's work in your soul when life comes at you fast
and hard."
The author names seven "FaultLines" in his book: growing
up, a call, a crisis, a conflict, a compromise, a success and a
death. He points out that these periods of significant upheaval
can be disruptive and distressing, but they are not always
negative. Many of the answers we seek lie in the Bible,
DeNeff says, and he skillfully applies Scripture to contempo-
rary problems.
DeNeff is the senior pastor of College Wesleyan Church
in Marion, Indiana. He is the bestselling coauthor of
SoulShift and the author of More Than Forgiveness and
The Way of Holiness.

I
llustrated by internationally recognized artist
Sergio Cariello and edited by Doug Mauss, The
Action Bible is the ultimate picture Bible. This
Christian Book Award winner presents over 200
fast-paced narratives in chronological order to illu-
minate the Old and New Testaments. Visually im-
pressive and packed with drama, this epic rendition
will appeal especially to fans of graphic novels and
comic books. As the preface proclaims, "God is the
original action hero," and the Bible is a saga worthy
of Marvel or DC Comics.
Key passages from the Bible come alive as chap-
ters of The Action Bible. Stories like Noah's ark
("Rainy Days," based on Genesis 6-7) and the 10
plagues ("The Plagues," based on Exodus 7:12-
10:20) take on new and exciting significance in
graphic form. The Bible book index at the back al-
lows readers to easily locate stories by the particu-
lar passages on which they are based.
Young readers today are raised on visual stimulation. The
Action Bible satisfies the thirst for compelling images with cap-
tivating illustrations characterized by rich coloring, dramatic
tones, bold and energetic designs
and emotionally charged figures.
Contemporary, accessible lan-
guage broadens the book's appeal,
as well. Though geared towards
ages nine to 15, The Action Bible's
blend of clear writing and absorb-
ing illustrations can draw an audi-
ence of all ages.
Consider supplementing The
Action Bible with The Action Bible
Study Bible ESV, a related offering
from publisher David C Cook.
The study Bible combines Sergio
Cariello's illustrations with the

dard Version Bible, plus book
