#The Dress
A
t the end of February, a photo of a dress
posted online took social media by
storm. Caitlin McNeill had posted the image
on her Tumblr with the question, "Guys
please help me--is this dress white and gold,
or blue and black? Me and my friends can't
agree." Scientists could only speculate why
people saw the dress differently.
With an advertisement showing a
"bruised" woman in a copy of the dress
accompanied by the headline "Why is it so
hard to see black and blue?" advertising
agency Ireland Davenport channeled that
social media recognition toward the issue of
domestic violence in South Africa, while also
publicizing The Salvation Army's work with
abused and trafficked women.
The Salvation Army operates residential
care centers that provide for the physical,
emotional and spiritual needs of abused
women. Contact your local Salvation Army
for more information.

COMMUNITY CARDS
ID Cards to Help
Track Services
Used by Homeless
T
he Salvation Army's Georgia
Division is taking steps to
distribute ID cards to track its
services used by the homeless and those
in need. Data compiled each time one of
the Community Cards are scanned will
be used to determine what services are
being used and what is needed.
Major Shirley Suarez, Director of Social
Services, says, "This will allow us to see
all the services provided so we can offer
foundational assistance based on correct
information."
The Army is working with other area
non-profits to make the card functional
for all related agencies.
