Silencing The Accuser: Eight
Lies Satan Uses Against
Christians
--Many Christians
are unaware of the lies Satan,
the accuser, whispers in their
ears. Not only does he accuse
believers, but he deceives
them concerning their rela-
tionship with God and also
their identities, and he speaks
falsely concerning God and
His love for His children.
Using the Old Testament story of Job, author
Sandie Freed exposes our ancient enemy and the
multiple ways he manipulates believers. With her
trademark transparency and warmth, Freed encour-
ages those struggling with a sense of hopelessness,
a negative self-image, or a season of attacks--to
name just three. She shows readers how to root out
and overcome the negative thoughts the accuser
plants, arming them with battle-tested prayer
strategies to silence him and his deadly
whisperings forever.
Fractured Parables--The peo-
ple portrayed in the Bible are
just as human as we are, and
just as contemporary as well,
author A. Kenneth Wilson as-
sures us in Fractured Parables.
Major Wilson's book helps
readers view beloved biblical
accounts and characters in a
new, modern way. In more than
three dozen short articles,
Jesus' parables are retold in
contemporary circumstances and language--making
them both entertaining and enlightening.
In his preface the author describes his literary
style as "fun," and this collection of his writings is no
exception. This book is sure to make you laugh, make
you think, lighten your heart and quicken your spirit.

Based on research from an internal audit by The Salvation Army
St. Paul's theology of
weakness turns the
world upside down in
terms of emphasizing
how God empowers and
is manifest in and
through what the world
considers foolishness,
feebleness, frailty,
fragility, and vulnerabil-
ity. The Spirit's gifts are
distributed equally to
all
members of the body,
including people with
disabilities, and these
members are especially
honorable within and
vital for the body.
The wisdom of God is
also particularly manifest
in what the world con-
siders foolishness, and
this therefore elevates
people with intellectual
disabilities to the center
of the church rather than
leaving them relegated
to its margins.
Such a Pauline theol-
ogy of weakness and
disability alerts us to the
possibility that the Spirit
is capable of accom-
plishing much more
through the lives of peo-
ple with disabilities --
physical and
intellectual --than we
might otherwise per-
ceive or have been ready
to receive.
The existence of con-
gregations and commu-
nities whose weakness
and foolishness are oc-
casions for the manifes-
tation of the cross would
bear more palpable wit-
ness to the power, glory
and wisdom of God.
Thus, churches that wel-
come people with a
broad spectrum of dis-
abilities, like many
L'Arche communities
around the world, would
incarnate the Pauline
principles that the body
of Christ and the fellow-
ship of the Spirit are
constituted by many dif-
ferent members, each
with his or her own spiri-
tual gifts. None of the
members or their gifts
are more or less valu-
able-- and if anything,
those deemed less wor-
thy of honor are more
indispensable. This is be-
cause God has chosen in
Christ and in the cross
the foolish things of the
world rather than the
wise, the lowly and de-
spised rather than the
conventionally valued,
the weak rather than
the strong.
