The War Cry | AUGUST 2014
Great Promises; Recipes
I cannot tell you
how much I enjoy
and am blessed by
the War Cry. I am
80 years old, live
in a senior
complex, have
health issues and
transportation
problems and am
not always able to
get to worship
services. I read my War Cry cover to
cover. I have two concerns. In the March
2014 issue, the statement in "Great
Promises of the Bible" that children are
a burden is absolutely wrong. Maybe it
is so for those who don't want or even
like children, but I never felt my God
given children were a load to carry.
Also, an earlier recipe for twice-baked
sweet potatoes had an obvious error,
but I've not seen a correction. And your
recipe for roasted asparagus in the
Easter issue gave confl icting directions
for baking. This may seem trivial but I
can't afford to mess up!

Christ for All
It saddens me when I see people,
even Christians, turning their backs
on those in prison, even their own
family members. It is true that those
of us who committed crimes deserve
to be punished. However, when we
give our lives to Christ old things are
passed away and all things have
become new. Yet even when we make
parole and need help for a home plan
and guidance we are forgotten. Christ
is not just the Savior to free people,
but all people, those in prison as well.
All of us have fallen short of God's
glory; Christ is for all of us.

Back to the Bible
Being separated from my family is
complete punishment, unhappiness
and sadness. But the War Cry helped
me pick my Bible back up with the
knowledge that Christ supplies all my
needs. This magazine is totally awe-
some! I recommend it to all believers.

Living Out the Word
Thank you for encouraging me through
the War Cry. When I am released from
prison I would like to become a Salva-
tionist so I can encourage others with
my testimony of how God has changed
my life. I have begun to claim and
believe God's promises by faithfully
living out the Word.

Growing in Christ's Image
Thank you for supplying the War Cry
to the Federal Correctional Complex.
It has inspired and encouraged inmates
to move forward in their Christian
walk with Jesus Christ. Keep up the
good work!

Upheld by God's Word & Promises
I just received my fi rst copy of the
War Cry. I am so thankful for its articles
and letters of inspiration, encourage-
ment and love. For years, when I walked
by a Salvation Army representative
ringing their handbell, I always made a
point to put some money into their
kettle. Little did I know that I would end
up needing your help myself. When I
reached out in need of food and
support, I received it with Christian love,
and I will be forever grateful to the Army.
My unfortunate fall from grace has led
me to prison. I told myself I would kill
myself fi rst before I would go there.
But the Holy Spirit intervened and let
me know He had a plan for me and
He would reveal it soon. God reminds
me often that, "He has chosen us and
not cast us away." He says, "Do not be
afraid for I am with you. Do not be
discouraged for I am your God. I will
strengthen you and help you. I will hold
you up with my victorious right hand"
(Isaiah 41:9-10). My faith, hope and love
in and for God sustains me while
incarcerated and always.

All In
Thank you for sharing
the blessing, via the
June 2014 issue of the
War Cry, of the article
about the Spirit's full
measure, "All In," by
Jonathan Raymond. I
was edifi ed and
encouraged as I read.
As a non-adherent but
strong admirer of the
Army, I have been fascinated by its
emphasis (and sometimes apparent lack
of emphasis) on the doctrine and
moving of the Holy Spirit. I have also
read some about that wonderful vessel
of the Lord, Samuel L. Brengle. I have
received some valuable insight on these
subjects from Catherine Hayes, leader-
ship development director in Philadelphia.
I appreciate the unity of the Army amid
a diversity of personalities and ministry
styles. Thank you again for the War
Cry's
contribution to my fl edgling
understanding!
