THE WAR CRY/MARCH 17, 2012
7
The MayAugust 2012
issue of the daily devo-
tional Words of Life
details the journey of
faith. From the travels of
the Israelites to the
Promised Land, to
David's perseverance in
faith despite his failings
and the spread of the
Gospel, author Major
Beverly Ivany leads the
reader to discover how
God stands by His people
when they trust in Him.
The importance of
prayer is considered
through the suffering of
Job and the story of
Ezra, while guest writer
Major Sasmoko Hert-
jahjo from Indonesia
provides a beautiful Pen-
tecost series. Each week-
end, excerpts from
hymns, psalms and
proverbs provide
reminders of a faith jour-
ney shared with brothers
and sisters worldwide.
Making Contact in Mexico
he 22 cadets in Mexico training to be
Salvation Army officers were empow-
ered by the Holy Spirit and backed by
prayer as they took part in daily outreach activities on the streets of Guadalajara
during the Pan American games this past fall. They engaged in evangelistic con-
versations with people of all ages and prayed with many. The games featured
6,000 athletes from 42 nations participating in 36 sports.
A second delegation of more than 60 Salvationists took over the spiritual
baton from the cadets, participating in
many activities. The officers, territorial
headquarters staff and young Salva-
tionists from corps throughout the
Mexico Territory and seven Salvation-
ists from Argentina, Paraguay,
Uruguay and Chile made an impres-
sive spiritual force.
Some carried advertisements
announcing "We will pray for you."
They prayed for motorists stopped at
traffic lights when asked. Creative arts
activities including clowning, mime,
drama and traditional Mexican dance attracted attention for God's glory. Team
members prayed with visitors at Guadalajara's General Hospital for emotional and
spiritual strength. Salvationists also conducted street surveys on pressing social
issues such as sexual trafficking and HIV/AIDS. Young Salvationists preached the
Word with courage and commitment, distributing brochures, bookmarks, War
Crys and other
evangelistic
literature.
More than
14,300 people
were contacted
during the cam-
paign. One man
said he had been
considering sui-
cide. His life was
changed through
prayer.
