a wonderfully "coinciden-
tal" visit from The Salva-
tion Army. In addition to
encouraging her with the
Gospel, they provided
her the only clothes she
owned and were working
to secure her an apart-
ment. Her gratitude was
overwhelming. Even in the
midst of those difficulties
her response to me was
that she knew "Jesus was
all that matters." Even
more telling, her nursing
home was ranked as one
star on a scale of five. I
can only imagine the poor
conditions that the Army
members walked into, but I
suspect that similar acts of
kindness and ministry are
replayed each day across
the country, more times
then most people know.
As we field these calls
all I can think is, "And the
King will answer and say
to them, `Assuredly, I say
to you, inasmuch as you
did it to one of the least
of these My brethren,
you did it to Me.'" More
Holding Heaven
We've received close to
100 calls in the last few
days from readers follow-
ing your use of Holding
Heaven on the cover of
the Christmas issue of the
War Cry. Many
of the calls
have come
from nursing
homes or as-
sisted living fa-
cilities. Several
of these callers
have told us
of the incred-
ible work that
members of
The Salvation
Army have
been doing
at their facil-
ity, and more importantly,
in their lives as the Army
reaches out to them both
materially and spiritually.
One elderly woman from
an Ohio nursing home,
just released from the ICU,
was homeless. She relayed
to me that at her time of
greatest need, there was

we handed out nearly
1,200 copies at this event.
Thank you for allowing
us this opportunity to
reach many who are lost
and needy. And thanks
for your tremendous out-
reach to the community
at this time of the year.
A copy of the Christ-
mas edition of the War
Cry
was in each sack of
food that you gave out.
I picked the magazine
up and read your article
about Joseph. What a
delightful and insightful
look into the life of the
"foster father" of Jesus.
Thank you for tirelessly
proclaiming the life chang-
ing message of redemp-
tion to the most needy
people in our country.

Something Uncommon
I was touched by the ar-
ticle on Joseph by Major
Allen Satterlee which
concluded; "He was
the first man to experi-
ence that knowing Jesus
changed a commoner into
something uncommon,
the very thing Jesus will
do for you today." Jesus
changed my life many
years ago as a youngster
brought up in The Salva-
tion Army. Thank you for
bringing aid and good
news to so many people.

Someone left a copy of the
Christmas War Cry, "Hold-
ing Heaven" on my bed. I
like this issue and would
like to purchase two dozen
copies. I want to share its
messages and pictures
in places I go to spread
the Gospel of our Lord
and Savior of the world.

The Battle Is On
The Christmas issue
is quite simply--great.
Amidst all the "stuff" as-
sociated with this season
... thank you for remind-
ing me that "the battle
is the Lord's" ... let's not
forget the battle is on!

Major Hood
I appreciated warmly
the interview with Major
George Hood in the De-
cember War Cry. It comes
over very well. Good, solid
responses to the ques-
tions. I pray it will be seen
by readers far and wide.
