The compound, to in-
clude a new College Ver-
ena/school, primary
healthcare clinic, social
services building and
church, will enable The
Salvation Army to increase
its capacity to deliver
services to the community.
Construction is expected
to begin this May.
This symbolic step was a
bittersweet one, according
to Michel Porsenna, Vice
President of the Army's
Advisory Board for Haiti.
He noted that it connects
the tragedy of the past
with great hopes for the
future.
Longtime College Ver-
ena sponsor Kinder-
nothilfe (a charity founded
in 1959 by Christians in
Duisburg, Germany, to
help needy children in
India), was joined by rep-
resentatives of Salvation
Army donor territories in-
cluding Canada, the U.S.
Port�au�Prince, HAITI--Friends, Salvationists,
local and national and international leaders
gathered this spring to break ground for the
new Salvation Army compound in Delmas 2.

Colonel Onal Castor per-
formed the official dedica-
tion of the grounds. This
day was a time to "reaf-
firm the Army's passion to
demonstrate the love of
God and validate our com-
mitment to recovery and
redevelopment," noted
Lieutenant Colonel Victor
Leslie, Chief Secretary of
the Caribbean Territory.
