30% Reduced Risk
A treadmill sprint could do
more than tame your tummy,
it may also lengthen your life.
A recent study, published
online in Cancer, found that
women who exercised had a
30percent reduced risk of
developing breast cancer. Even
moderate physical activity
apparently does the job: 10 to
19 minutes of weekly exercise,
particularly during reproductive
and postmenopausal years--
was enough to lower one's risk
of developing the disease.

Sweet Heart
Slashing your risk of heart prob-
lems has never been tastier. A
study published in the British
Medical Journal reports that daily
consumption of 100 grams (3.5
ounces) of dark chocolate--a help-
ing that contains at least 70 per-
cent cocoa--can cut your chances
of cardiovascular events such as
heart attacks and strokes. Benefits
are not the same with milk choco-
late or white chocolate. Highcocoa
chocolate contains antioxidant
chemicals called polyphenols which
help keep blood vessels dilated,
thereby reducing blood pressure
and improving blood flow. Green
tea and brightly colored fruits such
as red apples and blueberries are
also major sources of polyphenols.
A Prayer Before Christmas Dinner
God of all gifts, we thank you for the many ways you have
blessed us this day. We are grateful each of those who are
gathered around this table. We ask for you to bless us and
our food and to bless those we love who are not with us
today. In our gratitude and love, we remember your
humble birth into our lives and pray for those who are
without enough to eat. We remember the stable in which
you were born and pray for those who have no place to live.
We remember your challenging message of caring and
giving and we pray for peace in families and nations
throughout the world. We bless you and give you thanks in
your Spirit who brings our hearts to life this Christmas
Day and forever. Amen.
