Commissioner William A. Roberts Appointed
Chief of the Staff and Commissioner Nancy Roberts
to be World Secretary for Women's Ministries
O
ne of General Andr� Cox's first official actions was
to name Commissioner William A. Roberts, Na-
tional Commander for The Salvation Army in the USA,
as Chief of the Staff, effective Oct. 1, 2013. Commis-
sioner Nancy Roberts
is appointed as
World Secretary for Women's Ministries.
Commissioners William and Nancy Rob-
erts hail from Detroit, Michigan, in the
Central Territory and have been serving
at National Headquarters in Alexandria,
Virginia, since Nov., 2010. Described by a
fellow officer as true servant leaders, they
bring nine years of overseas experience
to their new assignments. In 2008, they were named
territorial leaders of the newly formed Kenya West
Territory. Prior to that, Commissioner William was
International Secretary for Business Administration
at International Headquarters in London and Commis-
sioner Nancy served as Secretary for IHQ Staff Develop-
ment and IHQ Chaplain. From 2001 to 2005, they led
the South America East Territory, overseeing the work
of the Army in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.
After being commissioned in 1971 as Salvation
Army officers, they served in corps and divisional
appointments, including leadership of the Western
Michigan-Northern Indiana Division
and the Metropolitan Division.
Commissioner William Roberts, the
son of Salvation Army officers, holds a
bachelor's degree in Business Administra-
tion and a master's in Religious Studies.
Commissioner Nancy Roberts holds a
master's in Guidance Counseling, a bach-
elor's in Early Childhood Education and
certification in gerontology.
They have twice deferred their plans to retire
from officership, first to extend a three-year tenure
at NHQ and now to return to 101 Queen Victoria
Street in London.
People matter to these leaders, relationships matter
and those who have experienced their unique style
of leadership are grateful.
New National Leaders � Commissioners David and Barbara Jeffrey
C
ommissioners David and Barbara Jeffrey,
currently serving as leaders for their home South-
ern Territory, are appointed as national leaders of
The Salvation Army in the USA, effective Nov. 1,
2013 -- Commissioner David as National Commander
and Commissioner Barbara as National
President of Women's Ministries. They
have been serving as Southern Territorial
Commander and Territorial President of
Women's Ministries since Aug. 1, 2011.
Preceding this appointment, Commission-
ers David and Barbara Jeffrey served as
the National Chief Secretary and National
Women's Ministries Secretary at USA
National Headquarters.
They have served as youth leaders in the National
Capital and Virginia and North and South Carolina
Divisions, as Divisional Secretary and Assistant Home
League Secretary for the North and South Carolina
Division and as General Secretary and Home League
Secretary in the Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi
and Georgia Divisions.
As General Secretary of the Georgia Division,
Commissioner David also served as the Metro Area
Commander, which included oversight of 11 corps,
five boys & girls clubs, six emergency services offices
and a 250-bed homeless shelter. In addi-
tion to being the Divisional Home League
Secretary, Commissioner Barbara also
served as Coordinator of Women's Activities
for metro Atlanta.
They also served as Personnel Direc-
tors and as Assistant Principal and
Director of Special Services at the Evan-
geline Booth College and as Divisional
Commander and Director of Women's Ministries for
the Kentucky and Tennessee and Texas Divisions.
These personable, God�glorifying officers have
touched many with their compassion and edifying
witness, and Salvationists in the USA look forward
to their insightful, inspiring presence in their new
appointments.
