things in your heart? Which is easier to say, "Your
sins are forgiven," or to say, "Get up and walk"? But
that you may know that the Son of Man has authority
on earth to forgive sins ..." He said to the paralyzed
man, `I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home'"
(vs. 2224). Jesus' miracle rebuked the leaders'
skewed theology the instant he performed it.
The paralyzed man could have remained on the
floor, not believing that he had been healed. But in-
stead, he used the muscles that had refused to work,
stood on legs that had failed to hold him, and carried
out of that house the mat that had carried him in
(vs. 25). His healing was not accomplished until he
acted on the word of Christ. But when his faith began
to flourish, his miracle could be claimed.
The story concludes with the reaction of a stunned
crowd. "They were filled with awe and said, `We have
seen remarkable things today'" (vs. 26). Child of God,
may it be that when you in faith show that you have
been touched by Christ, people would say, "We have
seen remarkable things today."
One of the verses of an old song says,
I'm a wonder unto many,
God alone the change has wrought;
Here I raise my Ebenezer,
Hither by His help I'm brought.
