The War Cry of The Salvation Army
WC:
Please define your appointment as National
Director of Public Policy.
Leedom:
As National Director of Public Policy I
am privileged to represent The Salvation Army
to personnel on Capitol Hill and other members
of the federal government in order to bring to
their attention to the issues and concerns that
impact our delivery of service.
.......................
WC:
Why is this important?
Leedom:
This is very important because in the
Bible the decisions for the city were made at
the city gates. We have the opportunity at The
Salvation Army to bring the gift of God's pres-
ence to those who are making decisions on poli-
cies regarding poverty, hunger, addictions and
other issues that are of great concern to The
Salvation Army.
.......................
WC:
There is tension between the government and
people of faith regarding where the dividing line is.
Do you speak to those issues as well?
Leedom:
I remind people that the priority of The
Salvation Army is people. As we speak, we repre-
sent people who trust The Salvation Army. These
are people who come to us with their hurts and
pains; people who don't have a voice. That's why
they look to The Salvation Army to tell their
story. I tell people that I am a storyteller. I tell
their stories to people who make decisions which
impact their lives.

In his new appointment as National Director for Public Policy and
Liaison for Emergency Disaster Service, Major Darryl Leedom is
fully aware of the trust people put in The Salvation Army. In this
conversation with Editor in Chief Major Allen Satterlee, he explains
the unique perspective the Army brings to those involved in shap-
ing public policy, and the privilege of advancing freedom according
to the country's constitutional foundations.
