The War Cry of The Salvation Army
ple. Having recently come
to the USA from London
I knew many of the Army
musicians at that time and
Erik would quiz us over din-
ner about those he
also knew!
I enjoyed the article, but
the officer in the photo with
Erik on page 12 is not
Brigadier Alex Ebbs but
Colonel Bramwell Coles,
wellknown Salvation Army
composer and arranger. You
can see that the trim on the
tunic collar is that of a
Colonel studing a score with
Erik, maybe at a music
camp in the late 40's or
early 50's.

Aunt Sally
I am a retired officer. I am, and
always have been, a Creation-
ist. I believe God created
everything. However, your
Aunt Sally column in the Janu-
ary 21 War Cry suggests that
all Salvationists are evolution-
ists, and that offends me. I do
believe that God created di-
nosaurs millions of years ago.
Science has proven that they
lived long before man. The
suggestion that there might
have been dinosaurs on the
Ark was a shocking statement!
I firmly believe the Gene-
sis record of Creation. I do
not believe that we humans
evolved. God created us in
His image! The truth of the
matter is that none of us
knows the exact sequence
of all creation events, other
than what we read in Gene-
sis. We were not there.
Therefore, speculating does
no good. It's something we
can ask our Lord when we
get to heaven!

Name the Name
Thank you for the War Cry,
and for placing Christ
clearly at the center of
your mission. Some inspi-
rational publications will
mention "God," "the Lord,"
"angels," etc. but fall a lit-
tle short in naming the
name of Jesus. Nothing ul-
timately works apart from
Jesus Christ!
Thanks from a new sub-
scriber.

A Lasting Testament
I am enjoying the new for-
mat of the War Cry. Well
done! I
was
particu-
larly in-
terested
in the
article
on Erik
Leidzen,
"A Last-
ing Testament" in the
March 3rd edition.
My wife and I got to
know Erik quite well when
we were cadets in the
"Great Heart" Session in
New York in 1959-60. The
Eastern Territory's School
for Officer Training was at
that time located in the
Bronx.
Erik came to the School
in 1959 with Richard Holz
and Vernon Post, prior to a
choral presentation which
he led with the Cadets on
Thanksgiving Day at the
Centennial Memorial Tem-
