The War Cry | JANUARY 2013
A LOT OF PEOPLE FIND IT VERY HARD to believe in God--much less love Him.
It is definitely not hard for me. I find it incredibly easy to love God. He's done so
much for me that loving Him as a Father in Heaven who wants me to be with Him
there--forever--well, that makes loving such a God so irresistible!
Nope. I have no trouble at all with loving God.
It's people I can't stand. Well, not everyone--just the very few I run into every so
often who are, let's face it, difficult to love.
My life would be so much easier if God would just allow me to live by loving only
Him and letting those difficult people in my life go . . . well, you get the idea.
Here's my problem. It doesn't work that way, particularly for anyone who claims
to love God.
Why? Because it says plainly in I John 4:20: If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates
his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen,
cannot love God, whom he has not seen.
There's the rub.
Loving people is apparently a big deal with God. But human nature being what
it is, loving people--including the difficult ones--is not an easy chore.
Lately I've discovered why God purposely places one difficult person after an-
other in my life--a never-ending line of
dominoes, each of which I am forced to
love, despite the challenge.
God wants me to keep coming back
to Him for a fresh supply of His love!
Just when I get one challenging person into the "love column," God sends an-
other! The depth chart of hard-to-love people is very deep, believe me.
Here we are entering a brand new year. The slate is still pretty clean.
You can start, like I am trying to do, to love others, even though I might think
they don't deserve my love. Just like God loves you and me.
Because, come to think of it . . . we don't deserve His love either.
And yet, He does!
