The War Cry | NOVEMBER 2015
vation Army because of the kind-
ness of the Salvation Army officers
at the Great Falls Corps and their
practical, Christlike ministry.
Two sons (Daniel and Luke)
later, the family was stationed at
Robins Air Force Base in Georgia,
and attended the corps in Warner
Robins. It was during that time that
Darrell was deployed to Iraq. De-
spite the danger, Darrell was never
afraid. He says that for him, deploy-
ments to the Middle East seemed
akin to missionary trips. "The fel-
lows asked me how could I remain
so calm," he recalls. "I would tell
them that as a born again believer,
I was sure of whatever outcome the
Lord had in store [for me]."
For the subsequent deployment
to Pakistan, Crystal and the boys
remained behind at Wright-Patter-
son Air Force Base in Ohio and
ministered at The Salvation Army's
Dayton Adult Rehabilitation Center
(ARC), where Crystal volunteered
and helped with the family holiday
events for the men and women en-
rolled in that program.
Today, Darrell is attached to Pe-
terson Air Force Base in Colorado,
where he works for an agency of the
U.S. Department of Defense. The
family is very active in the Colorado
Springs Corps.
Darrell and Crystal consider his
stint at Peterson to be their "twi-
light tour," as he will be retiring
from active service in early 2016.
"It's good that we finish here," Crys-
tal says of Colorado Springs. "We
love the corps and the great evange-
listic ministry going on here." The
young couple agrees that this divine
deployment at the center of God's
will is the only place to be!
